VISION 2050

REPORT

VISION 2050 is Southeastern Wisconsin’s long-range land use and transportation plan, produced by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.

PROCESS

Following a substantial inventory effort, staff prepared forecasts of future land and transportation needs then conducted a three-year process involving extensive public outreach.

ELEMENTS

The VISION 2050 plan consists of seven different elements focusing on the various needs of the Region.

FUNDING

The ability to implement VISION 2050’s recommendations requires adequate funding.

IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation depends on the actions of local, county, areawide, State, and Federal government agencies.

THE PLAN

LAND USE

Preserve our natural and agricultural resources and make the Region competitive by supporting active lifestyles, high-quality public transit, and a variety of housing options.

PUBLIC TRANSIT

Provide service that is time-competitive with a car in many of the Region’s major travel corridors, and provide those without a car access to jobs, education, and other daily needs.

BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN

Provide high-quality infrastructure to support biking and walking to improve quality of life and achieve healthy, vibrant communities.

TRANSPORTATION
SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

Manage and operate existing transportation facilities to maximize their capacity, building a safer and more efficient transportation system.

TRAVEL DEMAND
MANAGEMENT

Use a series of strategies to encourage the use of alternative methods or times of travel, with the goal of reducing traffic congestion and vehicle emissions.

ARTERIAL STREETS
& HIGHWAYS

Design an arterial street and highway system to serve the expected 23% increase in vehicle-miles of travel in the Region by the year 2050.

FREIGHT
TRANSPORTATION

Design a multimodal freight transportation system to provide for the efficient and safe movement of materials and goods to, from, and within Southeastern Wisconsin.
